The Edo State Government has engaged mothers as key stakeholders in the school system to monitor standards in a renewed effort to strengthen the basic education sector in the state.
Acting Chairman, State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB) and Special Adviser to the Governor of Edo State on Basic Education, Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe charged the women to be vanguards of quality education in their neighbourhoods, when she received them in her office, in Benin City.
According to her, the state government’s policy on basic education recognises the role of key stakeholders in assuring standards.
She said that the mothers will help to monitor how schools adhere to government directives and initiatives in their neighbourhoods and report errant administrators to the board.
