We are investigating attack on Edo lawmaker in disputed mining site in Okpella — Edo CP

BY SIMON EBEGBULEM THE Edo State Police Commissioner, Mr Babatunde Kokumo, said, yesterday, that the command was investigating the alleged attack on the lawmaker representing Etsako Federal Constituency, Mr Johnson Oghuma, by some armed youths at the Obuh mining site in Okpella, last Thursday. Governor Godwin Obaseki had ordered the arrest of two staffers of BUA cement when he visited the site after accusing them of violating the order from the Federal Government that all the parties involved in the disputed mining site should steer clear until the matter in court was resolved. However, the lawmaker who petitioned the state police commissioner, narrated how he escaped death in the hands of armed youths in the area when he went to meet with Obaseki at the palace of the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella. Though Oghuma said he was yet to unravel whether the attack was masterminded by youths loyal to BUA cement or Dangote group, his police orderly was injured while part of his vehicle was touched by the youths.
